Coolsculpting® vs Liposuction
CoolSculpting vs liposuction is a choice between two very different ways of removing...
CoolSculpting stomach treatment is a non-surgical way to reduce stubborn belly fat by freezing fat cells beneath the skin. The treatment uses controlled cooling, also known as cryolipolysis, to destroy pinchable fat in the abdomen. The body then naturally clears the dead cells over the following weeks, with most clients seeing visible results within two to three months. It works on the kind of stomach fat that does not respond to diet and exercise, with no needles, no anaesthesia and no real downtime.
This guide explains how CoolSculpting works on the stomach, what the treatment involves at Air Aesthetics & Wellness Clinics, who it suits, what results to expect and how it compares to other ways to reduce belly fat.
CoolSculpting® is an FDA-approved fat freezing treatment that reduces stubborn pockets of fat without surgery, needles or downtime. It uses a process called cryolipolysis to cool fat cells to a temperature that destroys them, while leaving the skin, muscle and surrounding tissue unaffected.
Air Aesthetics & Wellness Clinics is a centre of excellence for CoolSculpting® and CoolSculpting® Elite, and one of only a few clinics in the UK offering the Elite version of the device. The Elite system uses larger, redesigned applicators that allow two areas to be treated at the same time and cover a greater surface area per cycle. For the stomach, that means a more even, comfortable treatment in less overall time.
The treatment is suitable for both women and men who are within 14kg - 17kg of their ideal weight but have specific areas of fat they cannot shift with diet and exercise alone. The stomach is one of the most commonly treated areas.
CoolSculpting works by cooling targeted fat cells to a temperature where they crystallise and die. The fat cells are then broken down and processed by the body over the following weeks and months. Studies have shown that a single CoolSculpting cycle can permanently destroy around 20 to 25 per cent of the fat cells in the treated area.
This is a long-term reduction. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they cannot return. The remaining fat cells in the area can still grow if you gain weight, which is why maintaining a stable, healthy lifestyle is important after treatment.
Cryolipolysis works because fat cells are more sensitive to cold than skin, muscle or other tissues. By cooling the targeted area to a precise temperature, the device damages fat cells without harming anything around them. The damaged cells then go through a process called apoptosis, a natural form of cell death, before being removed by the lymphatic system.
You can read more about the science behind cryolipolysis on the Air Aesthetics blog.
At Air Aesthetics, every CoolSculpting stomach treatment begins with a complimentary consultation. During this appointment we assess the area of concern, agree on the right applicator size and number of cycles, and plan the treatment around what you want to achieve.
On the day of treatment, a gel pad is placed on the stomach and the CoolSculpting applicator is positioned over the pinchable fat. The device draws the tissue into the applicator using gentle suction, then begins cooling. Most clients feel an intense cold sensation in the first few minutes, followed by numbness for the rest of the cycle. Many read, work or rest during the appointment.
A standard cycle takes around 35 to 45 minutes per area. The CoolSculpting Elite system can treat two areas at the same time, which is useful when treating both sides of the lower abdomen or the abdomen and flanks together. After the applicator is removed, a short massage is performed on the treated area to help break up the cooled fat cells and improve results. There is no recovery time, so most clients return to normal activities the same day.

CoolSculpting only works on subcutaneous fat, the soft layer of fat that sits just under the skin and can be pinched between your fingers. It does not treat visceral fat or replace weight loss.
There are two main types of fat in the abdomen.
CoolSculpting can be applied to several areas of the stomach depending on where your stubborn fat sits. The lower abdomen, often the most resistant area for women post-pregnancy or during the menopause, is one of the most commonly treated. The upper abdomen, where bloating and softness often appear with age, can also be treated when there is enough pinchable fat to draw into the applicator.
The flanks, sometimes called love handles or muffin top, are often treated alongside the stomach for a more even, contoured result around the whole midsection. Air Aesthetics also offers love handle treatments for women and abdomen sculpting for men, often as part of a wider plan.
CoolSculpting offers a non-surgical route to a flatter, more contoured stomach. The main benefits include:
CoolSculpting is not an instant treatment. The body needs time to clear the destroyed fat cells, and results build gradually.
In the first week, the treated area may feel tender, slightly swollen or numb. This settles within a few days. Some clients report mild bruising or a temporary firm feeling at the treatment site, which is normal and resolves on its own.
Early changes in the contour of the stomach are usually visible from around four to six weeks after treatment. The most noticeable results tend to appear between twelve and fourteen weeks, with full results visible at around twelve to sixteen weeks once the body has fully cleared the treated fat cells.
The number of sessions depends on how much fat is present and how dramatic a change you want. Many clients see a clear improvement after a single cycle on the stomach, though two sessions spaced six weeks apart often give a more sculpted result. The applicator is chosen to treat as much fat as possible in each cycle, and your treatment plan is agreed during your consultation, tailored to your specific goals.
Air Aesthetics is one of only a few clinics in the UK to offer CoolSculpting® Elite, the upgraded version of the original CoolSculpting system. The difference matters when treating the stomach.
The Elite applicators are larger and reshaped to better fit the contours of the abdomen, which means more pinchable fat is drawn into each cycle. The system also treats two areas at once, so the lower abdomen and flanks, or both sides of the stomach, can be treated in the same appointment. This shortens the total treatment time and produces a more balanced, even result.

CoolSculpting works best for clients who are already close to a healthy weight but have specific, pinchable areas of stomach fat that will not shift. It is not a weight loss treatment and it is not a replacement for surgical fat removal for those who need significant fat reduction.
It tends to suit clients who:
CoolSculpting may not be the right option if you are significantly above your target weight, if your stomach fat is mostly visceral rather than pinchable, or if you have a medical condition that contraindicates cold-based treatments. Conditions such as cryoglobulinaemia, cold agglutinin disease and paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria are considered contraindications for cryolipolysis. Your suitability is assessed in detail during your consultation.

The cost of CoolSculpting on the stomach depends on the size of the area being treated, the number of cycles required and whether you are combining it with other areas such as the flanks. Most clients invest in a tailored plan rather than a single fixed-price session.
For current, area-by-area pricing and package options, see how much does CoolSculpting cost. Pricing is also discussed in detail at your complimentary consultation, where we will recommend the number of cycles and applicator sizes most suitable for your stomach.
Each cycle of Coolsculpting for your stomach costs £350 and we offer generous discounts for multiple cycles.
The fat cells destroyed during a CoolSculpting session are permanently and safely removed by the body. The remaining fat cells in the treated area can still grow if you gain weight, so a stable lifestyle is key to maintaining your result.
To keep your stomach looking its best after treatment, we recommend:
Some clients combine CoolSculpting with muscle-toning treatments such as EMSculpt to firm and define the abdomen after the fat has been reduced. You can read more about this approach in CoolSculpting Elite and EMSculpt NEO.

Early changes are usually visible from four to six weeks after treatment. The most noticeable results tend to appear between twelve and fourteen weeks, with full results visible at around twelve to sixteen weeks. The exact timeline depends on your body and how quickly it clears the treated fat cells.
CoolSculpting reduces belly fat by freezing pinchable subcutaneous fat in the stomach so the cells die and are cleared from the body over the following weeks. It works best on stubborn pockets of fat that resist diet and exercise. To get the best result on the stomach, your treatment plan will typically include one to three cycles on the lower or upper abdomen, often combined with the flanks for a more even contour. Stable weight, a healthy diet and regular movement help maintain the result.
For many clients, one to two sessions on the stomach produces a clear, lasting reduction in pinchable belly fat. Some see what they want after a single cycle, others choose more cycles for a more sculpted finish. The right number is agreed during your consultation based on how much pinchable fat is in the area and how dramatic a change you want.
In the first week or two after treatment, the stomach can feel temporarily fuller or look slightly swollen. This is because the treated fat cells are being broken down and the body is processing them. The area can also feel tender, numb or firm for a short time. This usually settles within a few weeks and does not affect the final result. If anything concerns you, contact your clinic for a review.
There is no formal downtime. Most clients return to work and normal activities straight away. We recommend drinking plenty of water, wearing comfortable clothing for a few days, and avoiding very vigorous core exercise for around 24 to 48 hours if the area feels tender. Light movement, including walking, is encouraged.
By the end of the first week, any initial tenderness, redness or numbness is usually fading. The treated fat cells are beginning to be broken down by the body, but visible change in the stomach is not yet expected at this stage. Most people look the same in the mirror at one week, with the contour change appearing in the weeks that follow.
The clearest sign is a gradual change in how your clothes fit, particularly around the waistband and lower belly. Before-and-after photos taken at your consultation and at follow-up appointments make the change easier to see, since the difference builds slowly. Clinical studies of cryolipolysis typically measure reductions of 20 to 25 per cent in the treated fat layer.
You cannot dramatically speed up the natural process of clearing fat cells, but staying well hydrated, moving regularly and avoiding weight gain all help your body work efficiently. Some clients also choose lymphatic drainage massage or pair their treatment with toning work to support the contour as the fat reduces.
A small, firm area in the treated zone is common in the first few weeks. This is the treated fat tissue being broken down by the body and is part of the normal process. It usually softens and resolves on its own. If it persists, please contact the clinic for review.
Yes. The lower belly is one of the most commonly treated areas with CoolSculpting because it tends to hold pinchable, stubborn fat that does not respond well to exercise. Specific applicators are designed to fit the lower abdomen, including for the post-pregnancy lower pouch.
