How Long Does Face Filler Last?
Face filler lasts between 6 months and 2 years for most people. If...
Do lip fillers hurt? For most people the honest answer is that lip filler causes brief discomfort rather than real pain. The lips have a lot of nerve endings, so you will feel quick pinches and a little pressure as the product goes in, but the injecting itself takes only a few minutes. With numbing and an experienced injector, the sensation is very manageable.
When it comes to the question of, do lip fillers hurt? The feeling people describe is closer to a sharp scratch followed by mild pressure than a deep, lasting pain. Many people rate the discomfort at around 2 to 5 out of 10. It tends to be sharpest for a split second as the needle enters, then settles quickly.
Pain is personal, so two people having the same treatment can describe it differently. How you slept, where you are in your monthly cycle and how anxious you feel on the day can all change how sensitive you are.
The lips and the border around them are packed with nerve endings, which is part of what makes them so expressive. That sensitivity is also why a question like "do lip injections hurt" comes up far more often than it does for other areas of the face.
The upside is that the area is small and the treatment is quick, so any discomfort is short-lived.
A good clinic plans for comfort from the start. Numbing is the main tool; a numbing cream is applied to the area for 30–40 minutes, after which treatment takes place. Additionally, many dermal fillers also contain a local anaesthetic that helps as the treatment goes on. Belotero is the main filler range used at Air Aesthetics, chosen for natural-looking, comfortable results.
Technique matters just as much. An experienced injector works in a way that reduces discomfort, which is one reason the question "do fillers hurt" so often comes down to who is holding the needle. At Air Aesthetics, treatments are carried out by a qualified clinical team under medical direction.
People often compare lip filler with anti-wrinkle injections, treatments such as Botox. The needles used for anti-wrinkle injections are very fine and the forehead and brow area is less sensitive than the lips, so most people find anti-wrinkle injections more comfortable than lip filler. Lip filler involves a slightly larger needle or cannula in a more sensitive area, which is why it can feel a little more intense, though still brief.
The treatment being over does not mean the lips feel completely normal straight away. Some tenderness, mild swelling and the odd small bruise may occur for a few days and settle on their own. The lips can feel slightly firm at first as the product beds in.
Cold compresses help with swelling, and sleeping with your head slightly raised on the first night can make a difference. Your clinician will talk you through aftercare so you know what is normal.

Most people find it momentarily uncomfortable rather than painful, with a quick scratch and some pressure as the product goes in. Numbing and an experienced injector keep it very manageable.
Lip filler is usually felt a little more than anti-wrinkle injections, treatments such as Botox, because the lips are more sensitive. Both are quick and well tolerated by most people.
A smaller amount such as 0.5 ml means less time injecting, so it often feels easier. The lips are still sensitive, so you may feel the injections, but the treatment is short.
For the first few days the lips can feel firm or slightly swollen. As the filler settles over a week or two, it softens and starts to feel like a natural part of your lips.
