Coolsculpting® vs Liposuction
CoolSculpting vs liposuction is a choice between two very different ways of removing...
Fat freezing chin treatment reduces a double chin by cooling the fat cells under your jaw until they break down, with no surgery, needles or downtime. It uses controlled cooling, known as cryolipolysis, to target the stubborn pocket of fat that diet and exercise rarely shift on their own. Your body clears those fat cells naturally over the weeks that follow, leaving a slimmer and more defined jawline. For the right person, one or two sessions can make a visible difference.
This guide covers how fat freezing for the chin works, who it suits, what results to expect and what it costs at Air Aesthetics & Wellness Clinics.
A double chin is a pocket of fat that sits below the jawline, in the area clinicians call the submental region. It has very little to do with willpower.
Genetics decide where your body stores fat, and for many people the chin is one of those places. You can be slim, fit and eat well and still see fullness under the jaw. Age plays a part too, as skin loses some of its firmness and the contour softens. Knowing the cause matters here, because fat freezing works on fat and not on loose skin. A quick way to check at home: pinch the area gently. If there is a soft, movable pad of fat between your fingers, that is what this treatment targets.
Fat freezing chin treatment is a non-surgical option that uses CoolSculpting® technology to reduce the fat beneath your jaw. You might also see it described as cryolipolysis, cool sculpting for double chin or cryolipolysis double chin. Whether people search for coolsculpting double chin or cool sculpting chin, the same treatment is described. These all point to one idea: cold that destroys fat cells. If you want the basics first, here is what fat freezing involves.
Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the skin, muscle and nerves around them. A small applicator cools the fat under your chin to a temperature that crystallises the fat cells while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. The cooled cells then die off and your body removes them. For a closer look at how this happens, read the science behind cryolipolysis.
At Air Aesthetics we use CoolSculpting® Elite, the latest version of the system. Air is a centre of excellence for CoolSculpting® Elite and one of only a few UK clinics to offer the Elite version.
A small applicator is placed against the area under your chin and draws the tissue gently inward as it cools. You will feel a firm pull and intense cold for the first few minutes, then the area goes numb and most people relax, read or scroll on their phone. A single session for the chin takes 40 minutes and a special designed submental applicator is used. When the applicator comes off, your practitioner massages the treated area for about two minutes to help break down the frozen fat cells, which improves the result.
The crystallised fat cells die and your lymphatic system carries them away over the following weeks. Full fat clearance takes 12 to 16 weeks, and results are best measured at 16 weeks, once two skin cycles have passed. Some people notice a change from around six to eight weeks. The fat cells removed in this process are gone for good.
Important safety information: CoolSculpting® Elite is a non-surgical fat reduction treatment and is not suitable for everyone. A full consultation is required to assess your suitability and discuss potential risks, side effects and expected outcomes.
The best candidate for fat freezing chin treatment has a soft, pinchable pad of fat under the chin and is within 14kg of their target weight. Fat freezing is a body contouring treatment, not a weight loss method, so it works on a defined pocket of fat rather than overall size.
If your double chin is mostly loose or sagging skin, fat reduction will not be the answer on its own. Skin tightening treatments like Ultherapy® or Sofwave™ lift and firm the area instead, and a consultation will tell you which approach fits your skin. There is no overnight fix for a double chin, and any clinic promising one is worth a second look. The safe route is a face-to-face assessment with a qualified, medically trained practitioner. The Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) keeps a public register and good advice on choosing one.
Results build gradually rather than appearing overnight. As the fat cells clear, the area under your jaw becomes flatter and the jawline looks more defined. Most people treating a double chin need one or two sessions, with some choosing a third for a fuller change. Published clinical data suggests cryolipolysis can reduce the treated fat layer by roughly 20 to 25 percent per session.
During your consultation, your practitioner will share before-and-after CoolSculpting chin results achieved at Air clinics, providing a clear and realistic understanding of what the treatment can and cannot achieve for your facial profile.
Coolsculpting chin cost depends on how many sessions and applicators you need, which is decided at your consultation rather than set as a single price.
Coolsculpting is priced at £350 per cycle so it's £350 or £700. It is offered at our clinics in Henley-In-Arden, Leamington Spa & St Albans. Although clients will be asked to come to Henley for the treatment.
For a full breakdown of pricing across treatment areas, see our guide to how much CoolSculpting® costs in the UK.
There is no recovery time after fat freezing chin treatment, and you can return to your normal day straight after. The area under your chin may look red, feel swollen, numb or tender, and these effects settle over the days that follow. Numbness can last a couple of weeks and is nothing to worry about.
To support your result, drink plenty of water, eat well and stay active. Your body is doing the work of clearing the treated fat cells, and a steady, healthy routine helps it along. Keeping your weight stable also protects the result, since the remaining fat cells in the area can still grow if you gain weight.

Yes, for the right candidate. Fat freezing reduces the pocket of fat under the jaw, and most people treating a double chin see a slimmer, more defined result after one or two sessions. It works on fat rather than loose skin, so a consultation confirms whether it suits you.
It does. The treatment is based on cryolipolysis, a clinically studied process that safely destroys fat cells with controlled cooling. Your body then removes those cells over 12 to 16 weeks. Results are gradual and look natural as the fat clears.
The fat cells treated and cleared during fat freezing do not come back. The remaining fat cells in the area can still expand if you gain weight, which is why a stable, healthy lifestyle keeps your result looking its best.
The fat cells removed are gone for good. Significant weight gain can enlarge the fat cells that were not treated, so your double chin could return in part if your weight increases. Keeping your weight steady protects the contour you achieve.
Most people need one or two Coolsculpting sessions for the chin and some choose a third for a fuller change. The exact plan depends on how much fat is present and the result you want, which your practitioner confirms at your consultation.
