Are collagen drinks more effective than tablets?
It is scientifically proven that liquids are much more readily absorbed than solids. The body does not need hours to break down the solid consistency of a tablet or pill and a drink will be absorbed immediately.
To consume the same level of essential nutrients and collagen peptides you would have to take at least 20 large tablets. Collagen tablets are more difficult to ingest and assimilate into the body and are only partially absorbed.
As a liquid formulation 90% to 95% of ingredients are absorbed by the body, while tablets offer an absorption rate of only 30% to 40%.
Are collagen drinks suitable for everyone?
No. Many may not be suitable for vegetarians, because collagen is mainly derived from either fish (marine collagen) or pigs (bovine collagen). It is recommended you consult your GP, or a medical professional before using, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, on prescribed or other strong medication, or if you have an underlying or existing medical condition which affects your liver or kidneys, or if you suffer from known food allergies.
How long do the effects of collagen drinks last?
The effects will continue to last if you continue to consume the product. If you stop taking the products for a few days, the effects will be maintained, but if you stop treatment completely, the positive effects will be gradually lost over time. Results vary per individual, depending on genetics and other lifestyle factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption.
Are there any side effects?
These tend to be minimal but you may notice a discolouration, or brightening, of your urine upon the next urination after ingesting the drink.
Some users may experience a mild laxative effect for the first day or two following consumption of their first drink. This will resolve after a couple of days.
Furthermore, there is a known side effect for Vitamin B sensitivity. A small percentage of those taking Vitamin B3 (Niacin) supplements may experience flushing or tingling in the skin that can last up to 60 minutes. This side effect is known as `Niacin Flush` and it is caused by a dilation of the capillaries in the skin by Vitamin B3 to increase blood flow in areas of poor circulation. You can minimise the Niacin Flush by taking your collagen drink with food, or by drinking the dose in smaller amounts over the course of a day.
