Scalp Micro-Pigmentation

Scalp micro-pigmentation (SMP) is a life changing hair loss treatment. By applying natural pigments to the scalp, our highly trained practitioners can replicate the appearance of real hair follicles adding density to thin hair, giving you the look of a full head of hair that you have decided to shave.

WHAT IS SCALP MICRO-PIGMENTATION?

Sometimes described as medical hairline tattoos, SMP applies pigment at the epidermal level of the scalp to replicate the natural appearance of real hair follicles or strands. Semi-permanent, SMP gives you a natural finish to your hairline. Using tiny, layered dots in different hues and tones to replicate the look of a shadow on your scalp, this treatment creates natural-looking depth and definition that blends in seamlessly with your skin tone.

SMP can restore even a completely bald head to look like a full head of hair, making it the ideal solution for clients with full hair loss. It can also camouflage areas of concern such as the crown, leaving you with a cropped, strong attractive hairline. Suitable for men and women, all skin types and colours SMP offers an invisible, blended match with any existing hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before you consider this or any other aesthetic treatment it’s vital to ask lots of questions and fully explore all options available to you. Here are several questions we often get asked.

How long does SMP last?

The effects of SMP may last up to eight years, although the treated area will fade over time with exposure to UV and since all skin naturally exfoliates itself. We generally recommend brief touch-ups every three to six years.

How long does the treatment take?

We aim to deliver the most authentic recreation of natural hair as possible. As a result, it can take several sessions to achieve the desired result depending on the size of the area for treatment. Each treatment can take between 1 and 3 hours to complete.

Is it painful?

No, it is a minimally invasive procedure that most clients describe as feeling a slight discomfort.

How will I look after treatment?

You can expect instant results with an immediately visible hairline. Initially pigment dots can appear darker than planned. It may take up to four weeks before the pigments soften to their natural look and finished size. You will also notice some redness after treatment, which will fade after a few days.

What is the after-care procedure?

It is relatively straightforward in that we advise the scalp should not be washed or shaved for 4 days after treatment, and we recommend no sweat inducing exercise for up to 7 days after treatment. We recommend a high-specification sunscreen and chlorinated swimming pools are avoided for a month.

How often will I need to shave?

Most clients tend to adopt a freshly shaved or ‘buzzed’ look shaving every 1-2 days but it’s really down to your personal preference for your style.

Is it reversible?

Any removal process would be similar to that of a tattoo with the exception that clinic micro pigmentation is only goes down to the 2nd dermal skin layer, whilst a conventional tattoo is almost twice as deep. A full reversal could be achieved with a laser treatment.
