AWARD WINNING AESTHETICS & WELLNESS CLINICS

What Is HydraFacial®?

HydraFacial® is the worlds number one  medical facial treatment. It uses a patented vortex technology wand to open the pores, deliver active serums and lift away impurities in one continuous, comfortable treatment. There is no scraping, no harsh microdermabrasion crystals and no downtime.

The treatment is FDA-cleared and clinically proven to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, congested or enlarged pores, oily or acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation and brown spots. Complicated skin conditions such as pigmentation, rosacea and oily or acne-prone skin show measurable improvement with regular treatments. Unlike many facials marketed under the broader name of hydrodermabrasion or hydradermabrasion, only the genuine HydraFacial® uses the patented vortex serum delivery system, and only HydraFacial® can carry the trademark.

A HydraFacial in St Albans at Air Aesthetics is delivered by trained aesthetic clinicians under the medical leadership of Dr Claire Oliver (GDC 70918), Medical Director of Air Aesthetics & Wellness Clinics.

The HydraFacial® St Albans Treatment at Air Aesthetics & Wellness Clinics

Our HydraFacial treatment at the St Albans clinic follows the full six-step protocol, not a stripped-back express version. Each step has a clear purpose, and your clinician can adjust the intensity of each stage to suit your skin type and tolerance. The full treatment takes around 45 to 60 minutes depending on the boosters and add-ons selected.

The Six-Step Hydrafacial® Process:

Lymphatic drainage prepares the skin and gently encourages circulation, helping the body to remove waste more efficiently before the active part of the treatment begins.
The vortex wand lifts away dead skin cells and surface debris, revealing fresher skin underneath.
A blend of glycolic and salicylic acid loosens dirt and oil deep within the pores without causing the redness or peeling you might expect from a traditional chemical peel.
Painless vortex suction draws out blackheads and impurities from the pores. There is no manual squeezing, which means no marks afterwards.
A nourishing blend of antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid is fused into the skin using the same vortex technology.
A finishing step that locks in hydration and leaves the skin looking firmer, lifted and noticeably brighter.

Vortex Technology Explained:

Vortex technology is what sets HydraFacial® apart from generic hydrodermabrasion devices. Inside the wand, a spiral suction creates a vortex effect that simultaneously dislodges impurities and infuses targeted serums into the skin. Because the cleansing and infusion happen at the same time, the skin is never left dry between steps, and the treatment feels closer to a relaxing facial than a clinical extraction session.

HydraFacial® Benefits for Your Skin

The treatment delivers immediate, visible results, which is why it is often booked before weddings, holidays and other events. Beyond the instant glow, regular HydraFacial® sessions have a cumulative effect on skin health.

Benefits commonly reported by our St Albans clients include:
Smoother, more refined texture
Visibly reduced fine lines and wrinkles
Clearer, less congested pores
Brighter, more even tone
Improved hydration and bounce
A firmer, lifted appearance over a course of treatments
Better-behaved oily and acne-prone skin
Reduced visible pigmentation and brown spots

Suitable for All Skin Types:

HydraFacial® is not recommended for clients with active rashes, sunburn or open skin lesions. The clinical team at Air Aesthetics & Wellness Clinics will assess your skin fully during the consultation to confirm suitability and build the right treatment plan for you.

Skin Concerns a HydraFacial® Can Help With:

Our clinicians regularly recommend a HydraFacial in St Albans for clients dealing with:
Dull, tired-looking skin
Congested or englarged pores
Blackheads
Mild to moderate acne and oily skin
Hyperpigmentation, brown spots and sun damage
Early signs of ageing such as fine lines around the eyes and mouth
Uneven skin tone and texture
Dehydrated skin
For deeper resurfacing or stronger pigmentation correction, we may recommend pairing your HydraFacial with one of our skin peel treatments or Collagen Induction Therapy (also known as SkinPen), a remarkable micro-needling treatment highly effective for facial rejuvenation. Your clinician will discuss the right plan during your complimentary consultation.

What to Expect from Your HydraFacial® in St Albans

Before Your Hydrafacial® Treatment

Your first visit begins with a complimentary skin consultation. Your clinician will examine your skin using a 3D skin image that shows them what’s happening in the dermal layers. This is all done under proper clinical lighting, ask about your concerns and goals and discuss any products you currently use. This is the right moment to mention if you're using retinol, tretinoin, exfoliating acids or have recently had any other treatments, as these can affect timing.
There is very little preparation required. You will be asked to arrive with clean skin, ideally without heavy makeup. Avoid waxing, threading or any aggressive exfoliation in the 48 hours before your appointment.

During Your Hydrafacial® Treatment

The treatment itself is relaxing. Most clients describe the sensation as a cool brush moving across the skin with a gentle suction. There is no pain, no scraping and no need for numbing cream. You can choose to chat with your clinician or simply lie back and enjoy the experience.
The clinician will tailor the strength of the chemical peel step and the choice of serums to your skin. Add-ons such as a LED light therapy session using our Dermalux Triwave MD can be layered on at the end of the facial to enhance results.

After Your Hydrafacial® Treatment

There is no downtime after a HydraFacial. Most clients return straight to work or go on to a social event, with skin that looks visibly fresher, plumper and more even. You may notice a very slight pink flush for an hour or two, which settles quickly. Makeup can be applied the same day if you wish, although many clients prefer to enjoy the natural glow.
Your clinician will recommend simple aftercare: use a gentle cleanser for the first 24 hours, apply SPF 30 or higher every morning and avoid heavy exfoliating products for two to three days. Drink plenty of water and avoid very hot showers or saunas on the day of treatment.

HydraFacial Boosters and Add-Ons

One of the things that makes a HydraFacial near me so flexible is the booster system. A booster is a targeted serum infused into the skin during step five. Your clinician will recommend one based on your skin concerns, and you can change boosters between appointments as your skin needs change.
Commonly chosen boosters at our St Albans clinic include:
Britenol for visible pigmentation, uneven tone. This reduces redness and increases hydration.
Dermabuilder for fine lines and early signs of ageing
CTGF to support firmness, elasticity and a youthful texture
ZO Stimulator Peel booster for a stronger resurfacing effect
We can also extend the treatment with a Dermalux Triwave LED finish or pair it with longer-term programmes including Sofwave™ for skin tightening and Ultherapy®, the only FDA-cleared treatment to lift from the SMAS layer where surgical facelifts are performed.

HydraFacial® vs Hydrodermabrasion: What's the Difference?

The terms HydraFacial® and Hydrodermabrasion are sometimes used interchangeably online, but they are not the same thing. Hydrodermabrasion is a general category of facial treatments that combine exfoliation with hydration via a water-based device. HydraFacial® is a specific patented system, manufactured by the company that holds the trademark, and is the only device clinically proven through published studies to deliver the six-step process described above.
When you book a HydraFacial in St Albans at Air Aesthetics & Wellness Clinics, you are receiving the genuine HydraFacial® treatment, not a generic hydrodermabrasion facial. This matters because the serums, the vortex technology and the protocol are all part of the licensed system.

How Often Should You Have a HydraFacial®?

For most skin types, a HydraFacial® every four to six weeks gives the best long-term results. This matches the skin's natural cell turnover cycle and keeps the cumulative benefits building without over-treating the skin.
For specific concerns, your clinician may recommend a more intensive course at the start. For example, congested or acne-prone skin sometimes benefits from a fortnightly schedule for the first month, followed by monthly maintenance. Mature skin focused on radiance and firmness usually does well on a monthly cadence.
A single HydraFacial is a perfect pre-event treatment if you have a wedding, birthday or important meeting on the horizon. Aim to book three to five days before the event to allow the skin to fully settle into its glow.

HydraFacial® Results

Most clients see noticeable results after the very first HydraFacial® in St Albans. Skin looks plumper, clearer and brighter, with smaller-looking pores and a fresher tone. Makeup tends to sit better afterwards, which is one of the reasons it is popular as a pre-event treatment.
With a regular schedule, the deeper benefits become visible. Texture refines. Fine lines soften. Pigmentation lightens. Oily and acne-prone skin becomes calmer and less reactive. The skin barrier function strengthens, meaning your daily products work harder and your skin feels more resilient.
Because the HydraFacial® sits within the Air 3-Step plan, your clinician can also recommend supporting treatments such as medical-grade skincare or stronger in-clinic procedures to amplify and protect your results over time.

HydraFacial® Leamington Spa FAQs

For most people, yes. A HydraFacial delivers a deep cleanse, exfoliation, extraction and hydration in one visit, with visible results from the first session and no downtime. It is particularly worth it for clients dealing with congestion, dullness, mild ageing concerns or pre-event skin prep. For deeper concerns such as significant pigmentation or volume loss, your clinician may recommend layering the HydraFacial with other treatments as part of the Air 3-Step plan.
Across the UK, a single HydraFacial typically costs between £100 and £200 depending on the clinic, the duration and the boosters included. A full six-step treatment includes a booster which we phrase as serums and a cocktail of antioxidants to correct damage in the skin.
Often yes, but timing matters. Tretinoin makes the skin more sensitive, so we usually recommend pausing tretinoin for around five to seven days before your HydraFacial and resuming a few days afterwards. Your clinician will give you a specific plan during your consultation, and the strength of the chemical peel step can be adjusted to suit retinised skin.
The immediate glow lasts around five to seven days after a single treatment. The cumulative benefits, such as smoother texture, clearer pores and brighter tone, build with regular sessions and can be maintained long-term with a HydraFacial every four to six weeks alongside good daily skincare.
Often referred to as a ‘red carpet facial’, HydraFacial is popular with celebrities before events thanks to its instant radiance and refreshed glow.
A HydraFacial® is suitable for most skin types, but is not recommended for anyone with active rashes, sunburn, an active cold sore, very inflamed acne, broken skin in the treatment area, or certain skin conditions during a flare. Pregnancy is generally a precaution rather than an absolute contraindication, although certain serums are usually avoided. Your clinician will go through your medical history at consultation.
The HydraFacial® has very few drawbacks. The main consideration is cost over time, as best results come from a regular schedule. Some clients with very sensitive skin may experience a mild flush for an hour or two afterwards, and the immediate glow typically softens after about a week. Regular monthly treatments improve the glow of the skin, with results becoming longer-lasting over time so the radiance can extend for weeks. There is no significant risk of skin damage when the treatment is performed by a trained clinician.
Arrive with clean skin and minimal makeup. Avoid waxing, threading or aggressive exfoliation in the 48 hours before treatment. Pause retinol or tretinoin for around five to seven days beforehand, unless your clinician advises otherwise. Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment, and bring details of any current skincare and medications to your consultation.
Absolutely. We treat a significant number of male clients at our St Albans clinic, particularly for congestion, oily skin and dullness. The treatment is the same six-step process and can be tailored to address concerns common in male skin, including shaving irritation and enlarged pores.
Yes, with the right approach. For mild to moderate acne and oily skin, regular HydraFacials® with the appropriate booster can reduce congestion and calm the skin over time. For rosacea, a gentler protocol is used, and the treatment can help to support the skin barrier when delivered carefully by an experienced clinician. Dermalux LED Tri-Wave therapy can also be added to further boost skin repair, reduce inflammation and help improve acne breakouts and rosacea-related redness. Your consultation will determine whether the HydraFacial® is the right starting point or whether a different treatment plan would suit you better.
