Sofwave vs. Morpheus8

19th July 2025
Jayne McIntosh - Director - Air Aesthetics and Wellness Clinics
Jayne McIntosh

Sofwave™ and the technology behind Morpheus8 are two of the most effective treatments we use. They are exceptional at turning back the clock on skin ageing but are designed for different concerns and deliver different results. In this guide we compare, Sofwave vs Morpheus8, where our clinical team explains which treatment is better for you.

The Air Aesthetics Guide to Skin Tightening

At Air Aesthetics, our patient-first philosophy means cutting through the hype to give you clear, honest information. As a multi-award-winning, Doctor-led clinic, crowned at prestigious national events like The Aesthetics Awards and The Safety in Beauty Diamond Awards, our primary goal is to empower you with the knowledge to make the best decision for your unique skin.

Our Medical Director, Dr. Claire Oliver (GDC 70918), has over two decades of experience dedicated to a core belief: "less is definitely more." We are committed to safe, FDA-approved technology that delivers beautiful, natural-looking results.

What is Sofwave™? The Non-Invasive Lift

In our clinics, we see Sofwave™ as a targeted lifting and tightening treatment. It uses a proprietary and FDA-cleared technology called Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) to rejuvenate the skin from the inside out, without ever breaking the surface.

How Sofwave™ Works

Sofwave™ delivers seven parallel beams of ultrasound energy to an exact depth of 1.5mm in the mid-dermis, the optimal layer for collagen and elastin production. This energy gently heats the tissue to the perfect temperature (60-70°C). This triggers your body's natural healing response to create new, strong collagen and elastin.

A key feature is the integrated Sofcool™ cooling system, which protects the outer layer of your skin. This makes the treatment safe for all skin types, comfortable and requires no downtime.

The Ideal Sofwave™ Candidate at Air Aesthetics

During your initial consultation, we find that Sofwave™ is a perfect match if you:

  • Have mild-to-moderate skin laxity.
  • Are primarily concerned with lifting drooping brows, softening jowls and tightening the neck.
  • Want to improve fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Value convenience and cannot afford any social downtime.
  • Are needle-phobic or prefer a completely non-invasive approach.

Sofwave™ is celebrated as a "one and done" treatment. For most of our patients, a single 45 minute session is all that is needed to achieve significant, lasting results.

It is this kind of outcome that led one of our clients to say: "I was impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of the clinic and the team. I'm 4 months in and have been delighted with the results. I can see a noticeable lift and the results will only get better. Highly recommend." Jayne, Henley-in-Arden Clinic

Who is Not an Ideal Candidate for Sofwave™?

Sofwave™ has an exceptional safety profile and is suitable for a wide range of patients. Our duty of care involves ensuring it is the right and safe choice for you. During your detailed consultation we will confirm your suitability. Sofwave™ may not be recommended if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have a pacemaker, defibrillator, or other electronic implant.
  • Have significant facial implants, such as metal plates or screws in the treatment area. Standard dental implants are generally not a concern.
  • Have an open wound, active acne, or a skin infection in the target area.
  • Have a history of keloid scarring.
  • Have had a recent dermal filler treatment in the area. Sofwave™ can be performed in conjunction with fillers, a specific timeline and treatment plan must be established by your practitioner to ensure optimal results and safety.

The Power of RF Microneedling: The Technology Behind Morpheus8

You have likely heard about the impressive results of Morpheus8, which is one well-known example of a powerful technology called Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling alongside Exion RF and Secret RF. This advanced treatment is designed for deep tissue remodelling and addresses a wide and more complex range of concerns than lifting alone.

How RF Microneedling Works

The technology uses a handpiece with ultra-fine, gold-plated needles that penetrate the skin to a customised depth. Once the needles are in the tissue, they deliver a pulse of radiofrequency energy to generate controlled heat.

This dual action accomplishes two things:

  1. Microneedling: Creates micro-injuries that stimulate a powerful wound-healing response, building new collagen.
  2. Radiofrequency Heat: Causes existing collagen to contract for an immediate tightening effect, while also triggering profound, long-term collagen and elastin production.

Its ability to reach deeper into the tissue also allows it to perform Subdermal Adipose Remodelling (SARD), meaning it can reduce and contour small pockets of unwanted fat, like in the jowl area, for a more defined look. It’s this power to completely remodel skin that has made RF microneedling technology such as Exion, Secret RF and Morpheus8 firm favourites of public figures and celebrities seeking to maintain flawless skin.

Our Chosen Platform: Why We Use Secret RF and Exion RF

At Air Aesthetics, our commitment to providing the most advanced and effective treatments means we are constantly evaluating the latest technologies. We have chosen the state-of-the-art Secret RF system and Exion for our clinics because we believe it offers our patients distinct advantages.

Secret RF allows our practitioners exceptional control over needle depth and energy delivery. This enables us to tailor treatments more precisely to your unique skin concerns, from fine lines to deep acne scars. This level of customisation is key to achieving the safe, effective and natural-looking results that are the hallmark of our clinic.

The Ideal Candidate for RF Microneedling at Air Aesthetics

Our doctors find that RF Microneedling with Secret RF is the right choice for you if you::

  • Have moderate skin laxity and more established, deeper wrinkles.
  • Are concerned with textural issues like acne scars, surgical scars or enlarged pores.
  • Want to contour and reduce fat in the lower face (jowls) or under the chin.
  • Understand the value of a dedicated course of 1-3 treatments.
  • Can accommodate several days of social downtime for recovery.

The results of RF Microneedling are profound and our commitment is to guide you through every step of the more intensive treatment with complete transparency.

Who is Not an Ideal Candidate for RF Microneedling?

At Air Aesthetics, your safety is our highest priority. The first step in your journey with us is always a thorough, doctor-led consultation to assess your skin health and medical history. RF Microneedling is a highly effective treatment, but it is not suitable for everyone. We would not recommend the procedure if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have an active skin condition in the treatment area, such as eczema, psoriasis, a rash or severe cystic acne. Treating over active acne can spread bacteria and worsen breakouts.
  • Have an active infection of any kind, such as a cold sore (herpes simplex virus) in the area to be treated.
  • Have a pacemaker, defibrillator, or any other implantable electronic device.
  • Have metal plates, pins or implants in the treatment area.
  • Have a history of keloid scarring.
  • Have used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last six months.
  • Have recently had dermal fillers or neurotoxin (Botox) injections in the area. A waiting period is required, which your doctor will determine during your consultation.

Sofwave vs. Morpheus8 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are answers to the most common questions we hear from our patients at our clinics in Henley-in-Arden, Leamington Spa, Birmingham and St Albans.

Why do you use Secret RF instead of Morpheus8?

While we are experts in the technology behind popular treatments like Morpheus8, our Medical Director, Dr. Claire Oliver, has chosen the advanced Secret RF system for our clinics. We find it offers exceptional control and versatility, allowing us to tailor treatments more precisely to our patients' individual needs for truly natural-looking results.

Does Sofwave™ actually work?

Yes. In our experience at Air Aesthetics, and as supported by extensive clinical research, Sofwave™ delivers significant, visible results. It is FDA-cleared for lifting the brow, submental (under-chin) and neck tissue, as well as reducing fine lines and wrinkles. The key clinical trials showed that a high percentage of patients had a significant clinical improvement after just one treatment. You can review the technology and the clinical data behind these results directly on Sofwave™'s official website.

Does Sofwave™ tighten jowls?

Yes. Sofwave™ is one of our premier treatments for tightening mild-to-moderate jowls. It is specifically cleared for lifting lax skin in the submental (under chin) and neck area.

How long do Sofwave™ results last?

Results from a single treatment are durable, lasting for around one year or more. We recommend annual maintenance sessions to our patients to counteract the natural ageing process.

What is the downside to RF Microneedling?

The main consideration is the downtime. We are transparent with our patients that they should expect 2-5 days of visible redness and swelling. It can also be more uncomfortable than non-invasive options, which we manage carefully.

Does RF Microneedling make you look younger?

Yes RF Microneedling does make you look younger. By powerfully stimulating collagen, tightening skin, smoothing deep wrinkles and improving texture, RF Microneedling can produce a noticeably more youthful and refreshed appearance.

What is the best alternative to RF Microneedling?

For patients whose main concern is lifting and tightening with zero downtime, the best alternatie to RF Microneedling is Sofwave™.

What is the best age for RF Microneedling?

The best age for RF Microneedling is when you are showing signs of ageing. We have successfully treated patients from their late 30s to their 60s and beyond, all depending on their individual skin condition and goals.
