If you have melasma or sun damage, the first thing we need to do is prevent any further damage.
I recommend to my clients to limit their exposure to sunlight, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun’s rays are most intense.
Wear a large hat and use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher at all times. I always recommend sunscreens containing high levels of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
It is important to remember that Hyperpigmentation, like other skin conditions, can severely affect self-confidence.
In the first instance I usually recommend a ZO Skin Health system to my clients to firstly manage the problem and then prevent it from reoccurring in the future.
At Air Aesthetics we initially use 3 simple steps to repair, rejuvenate and achieve healthy skin.
An effective skin care regime such as the ZO Skin Health system prepares and stabilises the skin before targeting all the stages of skin discoloration and pigmentation through a very clever microsphere delivery system. It contains naturally anti-aging ingredients such as vitamin C and vitamin A, which help to repair and correct the skin. These ingredients can have a huge impact on the health of your skin. Vitamin C is a very potent antioxidant that helps fight free radical damage. It also boosts collagen and elastin production, making skin glow. Vitamin A meanwhile promotes exfoliation, cellular turnover and stimulates collagen production. Wearing vitamin C during the day and vitamin A at night is a great multi pronged attack to promote healthier flawless skin.
But prior to this preparation of the skin it is crucial to cleanse, scrub and oil control. Regular exfoliation will remove dead skin cells, speed up cellular turnover, increase cell renewal and help these products work more efficiently.
My recommendation is monthly Hydrafacials or gentle peels if possible…… so that it becomes a part of a regular skincare regime.
The final step is prevention …. wear daily sun protection.
Whilst we can’t turn back the clock, and for a lot of us the damage is already done, it is crucial to protect your skin from any further UV damage.
Products that are at least SPF 30 and contain zinc oxide or Titanium Dioxide. Once you find one that you like, wear it every single day winter or summer.
